This week I learnt more about our ‘digital footprints’ through completion of the Connect.ed modules which covered topics of cybersafety, cyberbullying and our digital footprint. Connect.ed is a self-paced online Cybersmart education program that offers teachers or parents the knowledge and confidence to educate their students/children on how to stay safe online.

So what is a ‘digital footprint?’ See Amy’s blog by clicking on the link below. Amy provides a good description and outlines effective ways of managing one’s digital footprint.

What is a Digital Footprint and how can we keep kids safe?

I found the modules on the Connect.ed website very insightful and extremely useful. I particularly liked the simulations in which I became a 14 year old girl and then an 11 year old boy. Nothing like a ‘real’ experience walking in the shoes of the younger generation to really understand the pressures of social media, from their perspective.  I would highly recommend any parent or teacher to complete these modules to not only highlight the awareness of cybersafety and cyberbullying to children, but to build on their own understanding of the topics.
